Why SEO?

Wheee!What a difference a word makes.

When the time comes to create a new website, or upgrade a decrepit one, many business owners and marketing managers hire a web designer. They build you a fancy new site and hand it over to you. You write up the content using your knowledge of the industry you are in and your corporate jargon. Then you throw in some pictures. The site launches and you are now wheeling and dealing on the World Wide Web.

A month or two later, your boss comes to you and asks “why haven’t we had any new sales since the website launched”? You don’t have an answer.

Here is a simple example of how SEO can help. Say you sell toboggans. They are made of wood. You and your coworkers have always called them “wood toboggans” on your website. But after doing some keyword research, you find that people search that term on average only about 100 times a month. You try “wooden toboggans”: 1,300 times a month.

SEO is about words. It’s about using the right words. It’s about anticipating all the different ways people may search for your product.

There’s a bunch more tactics to employ to make yourself known to the world, but if you have your site set up properly, you will be well on our way to increased traffic and gaining some ROI on your investment.
